Introducing The House System

This year GCS will be implementing a House System for students and with students support. Those of you who are familiar with education in England, have probably heard about the

House System before. But what is so important about it and how can the children benefit from the “Houses”?

The ultimate goal of the House System is to create a sense of belonging and encourage students to participate in a range of events representing their house.

How does it work?  We have created 5 houses with an equal amount of members of both genders and mix of grade levels. To encourage a family spirit, we made sure that siblings are part of the same house. Currently the houses are numbered 1, 2,3,4,5, and to give a name to the house is the first (inaugural) competition.

During each competition students will earn points for their own house. We will also include the house points within the school rewards system where students will be awarded house points for academic achievement and positive choices around the school, including behaviour. Throughout the year there will be a range of events across a range of subjects. Stay tuned for updates and follow us on social media to see the pictures and news about the competitions. At the end of the year we will announce the overall winning house.

The House System was introduced to students during Assemblies last Thursday and was welcomed with excitement.
