Ashra. That means 10 in Arabic. And what better way to celebrate GCS’s 10th birthday than a wonderful musical performance by our talented primary students.
Ashra is an original creative production composed by the combined musical genius of Ricardo Gordon, primary music teacher, and Jara del Mundo, assistant music teacher. The production featured over 50 students from Grades 1 – 5 who were coached and directed by Jonathan Harris, Grade 3 coordinator and teacher. Together, our fabulous team kept the students highly motivated through their song and dance routines – both in extensive rehearsals and live on the night. Ricardo took the musical helm on piano, supported by students playing the drums, glockenspiel, tambourine and other percussion instruments.
A professional photographer captured the all action in the series of photos and videos as a lasting memento of Ashra and the students’ energetic and enthusiastic performance.
In addition to the Ashra performance, we also extended the evening by having a ‘live lounge’ in the cafeteria featuring a duet by local professional musicians, and performances from other GCS students and teachers, which created more of a community event. We had a special celebration cake for all those students who took part in Ashra, and we were supported by Desert Chill who brought their ever-popular ice-cream van to GCS – always guaranteed to put a smile on students’ faces!
The hard work of the children, together with the support of parents and staff over many hours of preparation made this all happen. We give a huge heartfelt thank you to all those involved in making this show a big success, and to all the parents who clearly thoroughly enjoyed the sold-out performance.
But . . . wait . . . we have more news! Save the Date! The Primary Talent Show will be taking place on Wednesday 27th June from 6 – 7pm in the Auditorium. It promises to be an entertaining evening of song, dance, recital … and absolutely oodles of talent!
