GCS student wins Secretariat Award at the 10th DIAMUN Conference

Earlier this month GCS-MUN participated in the 10th DIAMUN Conference with the theme “Global Innovation in Education, Energy and the Economy”.  This prestigious conference, held at Dubai International Academy from the 14th to 17th March 2018 was participated in by more than 800 students from over 30 school and 11 countries.  We had 24 GCS students from Grades 6 – 11,  who represented countries such as Singapore, Italy, Egypt and South Africa.

After three days of rigorous and intellectual discussions about global issues following the parliamentary procedures of the United Nations, GCS bagged three major awards:

SECRETARIAT’S AWARD – THE OVER-ALL BEST DELEGATE AWARD
Mustafa Khan, Grade 10C

BEST DELEGATE, Spain, General Assembly 4
Mustafa Khan, Grade 10C

BEST POSITION PAPER, Singapore-NSS (Nuclear Security Summit)
Shreyas Pingle, Grade 10B

The Secretariat’s Award was most unexpected and surprising award; we are delighted that Mustafa has been recognised as the overall best delegate for the entire conference.  This award is given to a student who embodies the principles of the United Nations – diplomacy, passion, character and spirit.  In addition, the Secretariat’s Award had never been given to any student since the inception of DIAMUN ten years ago.

Other highlights of the conference were the approved resolutions submitted by Grade 8 students Shreys Pingle, Adam Dudas and Waleed Yousif and the outstanding public speaking skills of Grade 12 student Abdelrahim Shaaban who represented Egypt in GA (General Assembly) 1.

The GCS student team was led by Dolores Allison and Gemelyn Palo, the MUN Directors, and they are very proud of their maturity, enthusiasm and positive attitudes at the conference, and for being worthy GCS Brand Ambassadors.
