It was billed as the biggest game in Greenfield Community School‘s basketball history, it became the most epic match in school history and did not disappoint the strong crowd which gathered in the gym on last Wednesday, November 22nd. An excellent display of skill, determination and sportsmanship from both GCS and Uptown School was decided by a single point. The biggest margin was 7 points, but it was big-man Philip Silva that broke the deadlock with his move to the basket with 8 seconds remaining. He scored the basket and was rewarded a free-throw for the foul, which he scored to put the Griffins up 1. A string of Uptown shots followed, but none dropped and GCS ran out the time on a fairy tale victory.
The crowd was so loud at times, it was difficult to hear anything in the gym and the full effect of the 6th man (the crowd) was felt by every Griffin player.
The depth of the GCS squad showed with all 12 players on the floor in the first half and a well deserved match-up against Wellington International School awaits them.
The Grand final will be played at Kent College Dubai on Tuesday December 5th at 4PM! Kent’s facilities will be perfect to showcase an outstanding season of Dubai School Basketball and the Griffins hope that as many members of the GCS community will join them in their quest for the title!
