GCS Debuts a STEAM Room in PYP

PYP students explore the STEAM Room

Our former Primary Years Program Science lab has been re-vamped into a STEAM room thanks to the ingenuity of two teachers, Hein Bester, grade 2 and Vincent Burden, grade 3. What is STEAM?

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics and works to implement these disciplines into education while encouraging students to think critically. This concept works seamlessly with our International Baccalaureate curriculum which encourages a cross-disciplinary, inquiry based approach to learning.

Over the midterm break the room was equipped with an overhead projector and updated to cater to a wide range of disciplines with plenty of areas and tools for discovery. It is now open across all subjects for teachers to utilize in their lessons. Launching a cross-disciplinary space like our PYP STEAM room enables our teachers to explore the IB units of inquiry and opens the door of discovery for our students.

We are excited to be one of a few schools in Dubai to offer a room dedicated to STEAM for our primary (grades 1-5) aged students.
