At GCS, success is expressed in many languages!
Greenfield Community School supports the International Baccalaureate philosophy of maintaining our students’ Mother Tongue language. We encourage students to continue studying their native languages to support their learning and to gain knowledge and understanding about their native culture.
Since September 2015, the school has implemented a very popular and fast growing Mother Tongue Programme. We coordinate with external organizations that can offer Mother Tongue lessons in various languages. The Mother Tongue lessons are mainly offered to students in Grades 1 to 5, once or twice a week (depending on the Grade level), during Arabic A lessons, though secondary students also have the opportunity to sign up during extra curricular activity timings once a week. All Mother Tongue lessons are available at an additional cost determined by external organizations. Understandably, schedules, timings, groupings, class sizes, curriculum and prices are ultimately determined by our external partners.
This academic year, the school’s Mother Tongue Programme got off to a good start. We currently offer German, Spanish, Italian, Hindi and Urdu language lessons for native speakers, both in the Primary and in the Secondary schools. We are continuously reviewing the programme, and looking at opportunities to improve and expand. In particular, this term, we’re looking at possibly adding Russian and Portuguese to the programme.
If you are interested in learning more about the Mother Tongue Programme at our school, or if you’d like to register your child for any of the classes, please get in touch with Ms Pageau, our Mother Tongue Programme Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
