Match Report from Tuesday 18th October
EIS Jumeirah 2 vs. GCS United 3
On a hot and sunny Sunday afternoon, Greenfield Community School United had their first competitive outing of the year.
With many skills and drills learnt, it was lovely to see a new team gel so quickly and the fruits of their hard labour in training pay off as they got off to a winning start. Gabe gave GCS an early lead with a well taken strike from just outside the box that Gareth Bale would have been proud of. Within five minutes, Jan added a second thanks to a clinical finish on his weaker left foot. Although the goals were warmly received by all spectators, it was the teams’ communication skills that shined in the first half. Students listened and encouraged one another, helping to keep a structured and organised formation to their line-up.
Everyone was in good spirits and when EIS brought themselves back into the game just before half time, the teams positive communication skills were put to a real test and the nearly formed squad stood up to it.
After the first half break, GCS United settled quickly back into their rhythm of passing and moving into space. Thanks to numerous excellent saves from Vladic the fresh legs of Federico, Hadi and Michel began to make a real difference. Much to the relief of many nervous spectators, Federico put the team into a 3-1 lead. The opponents replied with a another strike and at 3-2 it took a lot of resilience and principled encouragement from the vice-captain Lian, to ensure the team were able to hold onto their lead until the end.
We all learnt more about ourselves and the importance of communicating positively in order to bring out the best in us. I’m sure this great start is only the beginning of what will be a successful season for our under 9 team.
